Where is the job?
Work in our highly modern office space in beautiful and historic downtown Northampton, a fantastic arts/college town and nexus of the "cultural-creative" community in Western, Mass. Casual atmosphere, except more formal when at the shows. Travel for weekend expos 6-9 times/year. As our newest team member, you will have the chance to meet 100's of speakers, exhibitors, and attendees at our growing number of weekend events, as well as by telephone.
Ideal candidate
will have affinity for holistic health or spirituality, also called "cultural-creatives". Is this a new company?
While our expos have been running for over 20 years, Jonathon Podolsky purchased the business in the fall of 2004. The company is still rapidly evolving and employee feedback is often sought, so this is your chance to help shape a rapidly growing, creative, and future-oriented enterprise. How will I make money?
You have a base salary commensurate with talent and experience, health benefits, bonuses, and commission with unlimited earning potential. We pay for parking. Enjoy a competitive vacation period and some travel. Receive overtime pay or flex time off for travel and work at the events. Successful, hard-working candidates can expect to earn over $30-40k in the first year, and over $50-60k in the second year.
How will I spend my time?
average day:
50% sales telephone calls
25% customer service and meetings
15% email
10% data entry, paperwork
Overall:
8% travel (working at the show, sales trips etc.)
Inside sales, account management, cold calling, some face-to-face selling, filing, data entry, emailing, sending mail and faxes, communicating with event speakers, and organizing event details. Critical thinking is used to analyze customer needs and finding the best solutions. Creativity comes into play when deciding which solutions to offer to each business, deciding whom to call, and coaching our customers on how to receive maximum benefit from their experience. For example, advise speakers on the type of lectures that are of interest to our attendees, what materials we need from them, and what we provide. Initiate sales efforts by qualifying potential accounts; pursuing and building relationships; scheduling calls.
Who will I be calling?
Our customer relationship database has 1000's of businesses to call and assists you with taking call notes, scheduling calls, and referencing customer information. High rates of our customers renew, but continual prospecting is required, especially for our new shows. On a typical day you will make up to 80 outbound calls, in addition to inbound inquiries. You will have a call script for addressing new prospects, but the rest of your conversations are tailored to the particular circumstance. Cross-selling opportunities include exhibitor booths, advertising, and sponsorships for our events throughout the region.
How will I provide customer service?
By sending, information, answering questions, and reporting feedback. By resolving customer concerns on the phone and at the expo, you have the opportunity to improve our services by analyzing and relaying customer reactions, and by recommending new services.
What skills and experience are required?
Phone sales, data entry, customer service. Please be highly organized, self-motivated, goal-oriented, mature, reliable, detail-oriented, able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Proven sales ability is required. Successful candidate will be at least reasonably proficient in Microsoft Office (we use the Mac version), email, and web software; at least moderate typing speed. Must have good phone manners and be a good listener. Excellent verbal and written skills are required. Other needed skills are the ability to handle rejection, work on your own, and fast problem solving.
